Facebook wants to become TikTok – sweeping changes to the platform

A major change to the Facebook app — with a home screen more reminiscent of TikTok — was announced by Meta on Thursday. The news feed will contain public posts – mostly videos – that will be algorithmically recommended to the user based on the type of content that Facebook thinks is most relevant to them.

Users will be able to access videos and stories from the homepage and will see a new Channels tab in the in-app quick access bar. In addition, the quick access bar will change depending on the user’s preferences.

Facebook is completely rebuilding its advertising infrastructure. However, the question is whether its nearly three billion users want Facebook to be more like TikTok. TikTok is what they need?

Although it has had drastic changes in the past that ended up working without problems, some believe that the latest tweaks affect the very nature of the app, without taking into account the main reasons why most people use it.

The second important question that arises is related to the first. Some 10 million companies looking to advertise, many of which are small and medium-sized businesses, use Facebook because user actions are deemed appropriate to send them to their stores. But will a new Facebook like TikTok satisfy their needs?

Facebook will have a separate tab where you can see updates from friends and family. Perhaps at this point the professionals could place their ads. However, it is estimated that they will most likely need to figure out how to create ads that fit the new TikTok-like streaming format, and this change is seen as fundamental.
