The AEK basketball team has announced the acquisition of Akil Mitchell for next season. The contract with the 30-year-old athlete was signed for one year.

He was born in 1992 in the USA and is a member of the Panama national team. He finished last season in Germany’s Bamberg with 12.7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists per game.

Akille Mitchell was born on June 26, 1992 in Charlotte, North Carolina. A 2.06 m tall, originally from Panama and playing for the Panama national team, he made his first steps in the Virginia Cavaliers in the NCAA, where he stayed for four years. In the 2014/15 season, he played in the G League with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, averaging 9.8 points and 9 rebounds per game.

The following year, he made his first trip to Europe on behalf of Olympique Antibes, becoming a key player with 9.2 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. The next stop was the Australia and New Zealand breakers, who showed consistency in their performances before returning to the G-League for the Long Island Nets.

In the two years 2018-2020, the American Panamanian played in France (Boulazac), Italy (Trieste) and Israel (Hapoel Gilboa Galil), where he finished the seasons with an average of 9.6 points and 7 rebounds. In the 2020/21 season, he remained in Israel, but already with Maccabi Rishon, scoring 15.6 points and 8.8 rebounds.

His good performance that year saw him play for Karsiyaka in Turkey and in the Basketball Champions League before being shut down by Bamberg at the start of the season. In the German team, the center was a key player and finished the year with 12.7 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists.
