July will go down in history for a heat wave that brought Romania 11 days in a row with highs above 35 degrees, with a high of almost 42 degrees. Last month, the country saw highs of over 35C every day between July 20 and 30, with the hottest days on July 23 and 24 with highs of over 40C. Several nights saw lows below 20C across a wide range of south, south-west and southeast (so-called tropical nights). There were also places where nighttime minimums did not fall below 25 degrees.

Bucharest

Only three of the last 11 days have rained, and July had seven rainy days, but mostly very short ones. There were 12 days with temperatures above 35 degrees and five tropical nights (with minimums above 20 degrees).

Arad

Less than 2 mm of rain fell in just 3 days from July 1 to July 30. There were 10 days with a maximum above 35 C.

Virgo

From July 1 to 30, it rained for six days and there were six days with a maximum temperature above 35 C. From July 18 to 30, there was no rain.

Kraiova

There were eight days with rain (only two days the amount exceeded 10 mm) and nine days with highs above 35 degrees.

Ohm peak

There were six consecutive days without rain and a total of 14 days without any rain at all. There was also a night with a minimum temperature of +11.3°C, which is very high, especially considering that there were four frosty nights in July: the minimum was -1.2°C on July 12.

Cluj

There was no rain at all for 13 days in a row, and there was also a night with a minimum temperature of +20.5 C.

Mierkurya Chuk

There were nine consecutive days without rain, and with the exception of two days when it did rain, the amount was extremely small.

Buzeu

Half of the days it rained, but mostly less than 2 mm. There were 14 tropical nights and eight days with highs above 35C.

Drobeta Turnu-Severin

There were 22 days without any rain, 13 tropical nights, and 14 days with a maximum temperature above 35 C between 1 and 30 July.

Rymnik Vylcha

There were 11 consecutive days without rain and six days with highs above 35 C. Four nights were tropical, with the warmest bringing a low of 22 C.

Kalarash

It only rained for four days, and it rained very little. There were nine days with a maximum temperature above 35 degrees.

IASI

There were 21 days without rain and four days with a maximum temperature above 35 C. Five nights were tropical.

Sulina

Less than 2.5 mm of rain fell in just two days from July 1 to July 30. 18 nights were tropical, with highs exceeding 30C on five days.

Tulcha

It rained for five days, but only less than 6 mm. Eight nights the air temperature exceeded 20 degrees.

Rudi Ved

There was no rain at all for 13 days, and from July 1 to 30 there were 12 days with temperatures above 35 degrees.

Karansebesh

It rained for six days, five of which the total amount of water was less than 12 mm. For six days, the temperature was above 35 degrees.

Sibiu

There were 13 days of rain, much better than in the rest of the country. There was only one day with a maximum above 35C and the warmest night brought a minimum of 19.2C.

Bacau

There were nine days with rain and one with a temperature above 35 C. There were also two tropical nights.

Shugatag windows

In the commune of Maramuresan, 500 meters away, there were 18 days when there was no rain at all and the maximum temperature was 35 C, 11 days brought highs above 30 C. Six nights were very hot, with highs not falling below 17 degrees ( 18.6 C on July 24).

Wednesday, July 20

The maximum temperature exceeded 35 degrees in the south (Calafat), but also in the west (Baile Erculan). At night, it was 4 degrees on Obarsia Lotruluy. On July 19, the daytime maximum temperature did not exceed 33 degrees anywhere, and at night in Merkurya-Chuk there was +2.5 degrees of heat, which had not happened in the last 12 days.

Thursday, July 21

Early in the morning, it was +7 degrees on Obarsia Lotrului (1360 m above sea level) and on the Omu peak (2509 m above sea level). It was 23 degrees in Shiria and Fokshan. There were several weather stations with a nighttime minimum of 22 degrees: Buzeu, Galats, Tulcea, Hura Porticei.

At noon, it was hottest in Calafat (+38.8°C), Drobeta-Turnu-Severin (+38.1°C) and Beilesti (+37.9°C).

Friday, July 22

The overnight minimum was +5.1°C at Mercury Chuk, while it was +7.5°C at the summit of Omu, which is almost always the coldest. It was also warm in Balea Lac: +10.6°C in Intorsura Buzăului and Joseni was +6.3 C and in Toplița +6.7 C. It was +24.4 C in Shiria, near Arad, +21, 7 C in Dumbrăvița de Codru (also in the West Hills region), +21.2 C in Calafat and +21.1 C in Oravița.

The maximum temperature reached +39 degrees in Gymbolia and +38.8 degrees in Timișoara and Sannicolau Mare. At Mercury-Chuk it was +30.7, which is 25 degrees more than in the morning. It was 37 degrees in Devi, and +36.5 in Turda. It was +28.2 C in Mangalia.

Saturday, July 23

It was warmer at night: it was +9°C in Mierkurja-Chuk and +9.1°C in Intorsura Buzăului, while the minimum in Omu was +9.5°C. The warmest was in Shiria (+27.1°C) and Dumbravica de Codru (+26.3°C). It was +22.6 C in Sulin, and +22 C in Kotnar. There were also warm nights in Transylvania (+21.5 C in Tyrneven) and +21 C in Huedin).

This day was the hottest of the period, with temperatures exceeding 40 C in several places. In Calafat it was +41.7 C, in Baile Herculane +40.9 C, in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin +40.4 C and in Sakuen + 40.3 C. Even in Alba Iulia they were +38.8, in Turda – +38.2, and in Brasov – +34.9.

At Intorsura Buzăului, the maximum was more than 24 degrees higher than the night minimum: +33.5°C.

Sunday, July 24

The overnight minimum was +8.2 C at Obârsia Lotrului, +8.8 C at Mercuria Chuk and +11.3 C at Omu Peak, a very warm night for the coldest place in the country. The minimum temperature was +15.3°C in Bâlea Lac. The warmest was in Galaka (+23.1 C) and Sulina (23 C).

The maximum temperature exceeded 40 degrees: +40.7°C in Bucharest Filaret, +40.6°C in Zimnicea, +40.2°C in Rosioria de Vede and +40°C in Turnu Magurele, Giurgiu and Calafat . It was +26.4°C in Mangalia, and +15.5°C on Mount Omu.

Monday, July 25

In the early morning, the coldest was in Stana de Vale (+5.6°C), and in Ome it was +6.2°C. The warmest was in Buzau and Rymnik-Serat (22.3°C). In Transylvania, this night was extremely warm, with Brasov +19.1°C and San Gheorghe +17.2°C, one of the warmest summer nights in these cities.

The daily maximum decreased compared to Sunday, but reached +35.9°C in Baile Herculaneum and +35.7°C in Moldova Viche.

Tuesday, July 26

The minimum temperature was between 6 degrees in Obârsia Lotrului and +23.7 C in Shiria, the night was also warm in Bucharest: 20.2 C. At noon it was +38.6 C in Calafat, +38.2 C in Erculane and +38 ,1 C in Beche. It was also warm in Transylvania: 36 degrees in Sebesh and Alba Iulia. At the Constanța Dig weather station, it was +27.6 degrees.

Wednesday, July 27

In the first hours of the day, the coldest was in Merkurya-Chuk (+7.2 degrees) and Intorsura-Buzeului (+9.1). In several places, the night minimum did not fall below 24 degrees: +24.7 C in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin and +24.4 C in Calafat.

The maximum temperature was close to 40 degrees: +39.1 in Bucharest Filaret, +38.7 in Zimniča and +38.5 in Urzičen. In Vf Ohm it was +13.5 C.

Thursday, July 28

The coldest in the first hours was in Stâna de Vale, +7.3 C and at the weather station Ceahlău – Toaca, almost 2000 m above sea level. The warmest was in Drobeta-Turnu-Severin (24.4) and Sulina (23.6). At noon, it was hottest in Giurgiu (36 C) and Oltenica (35.8 C).

Friday, July 29

It was +7.9 C in the morning in Om, and +9.1 C in the Kelimani Mountains. The warmest was in Gura Portiței, Dobrudja: +22.9 C. The night was also warm in Transylvania, with a minimum temperature of + 18.7 in Tirgu Mures .

The maximum temperature reached +36.4°C in Beşte, +36°C in Bucharest Filaret and +35.9°C in Zimnicea and Turnu-Magurele.

Saturday, July 30

In the first hours, the temperature was between 8 degrees in Obarsia Lotrului and Omu and over 25 degrees in Moldavia Noue. The warmest day was in Besheti (+38) and Zimnychi (37.5°C). After 14.00 storms passed in many places of Banat, Transylvania and Kryzan, so that when the temperature exceeded 37 C in the south, it was 19 C in Reshit and then in Deva. The most rain was in Ștei (Bihor County).

Sunday, July 31

It was coldest early in the morning in the Semenytsky Mountains. +5.1 C and on Vf Ohm (+5.6 C). It was warmest in Sulin (minimum +25.3 C), but it was also warm in other places of Baragan (Kelarash 22.7, Fetesh 22.6). Omu Peak is among the top 10 places in Europe where the most rain has fallen in the last 24 hours – more than 50 mm.

The day was less warm than all the previous ones in this wave, nowhere above 32 degrees, the maximum in Videl. +31.9 C. In addition, at noon, heavy rain fell in many places, which became the heaviest in recent weeks. There was a lot of rain, especially in Urzichen, Kampina, Slobozia and Fokshany.
