Edi Yordenescu after the 1:1 game with Israel: “We are confident that we can go to the Euros”

The selector talked about the weak second half of the “tricolor” and the quality of the players from Israel, but also said that Romania can go to EURO 2024, although “our destiny is to fight”.

“First of all, we must thank the public. I ignited hope and the audience responded. I wish we could give them more, but that’s all we could do tonight.

We know how the game went. We were 1-0 and if we had acted differently we could have won. But we could also lose.

My confidence in the group remains unchanged. We are sure that we will be able to go to the Euro. We would like more, but we remain unbeaten after 5 games and occupy a qualifying place.

I think we did well in the first half, Israel had no chances. We covered the field well, we had an acceptable intensity, even if I would have liked to meet them more aggressively in some moments.

Let’s be objective, they have many individual qualities. Unfortunately, in the second half we should have done more, given more. I gave in quite easily, made many mistakes. Even the players who entered along the way did not bring the expected plus.

I believe in our individual quality. If there’s one thing that bothers me, it’s that I’d like more calm in the build, we’re creating opportunities from transitions and it’s not enough.

All the matches are important, Kosovo came back with Switzerland, took a point, and Kosovo and Israel have quality players.

We’re moving forward because of the cohesion, the group, the spirit, and I’m sure we have some quality guys who can step up. But this requires more courage.

If I had won today, I would have said it differently, I would have said that I took an important step towards qualification. But our destiny is to fight. We have to give a positive result against Kosovo, then there is a more accessible action (not against Belarus and Andorra, in October), where we can attract important, decisive points” – Edi Jordanescu on Prima TV.
