Under the name of the famous American film with Jane Seymour, Christopher Plummer and Christopher Reeve, a film that was strangely released on Romanian screens in the suffocating, almost hopeless 80s, Teatrul queen maria from Oradea offered his audience the opportunity to see the play Almost, Maine Ioanna Cariani.
Further, I will not try to understand the reason for the name change. I will content myself only with the observation that the events in the 8 modules of the show take place at an unspecified time, but the place where they are consumed is indicated as clearly as possible. I mean Maine, a rather strange place with a society and not a very organized social life, located where the map is nailed.
But it is more important to say that the play, written in 2002, played with the absolute premiere in 2006, was staged several times in Romania. Or with the name of the poster in English (Almost, Maine), or with it in Romanian, but with small, unimportant variations. I mean times Next to youtimes Close to you, still. The final adverb in the second version emphasizes the human and sentimental state of most of the characters. That is, what in Almost, Maine we see a sequence of people who are seeking or have passed through the state of couplehood. People who live not only on the edge of the world, but also in sentimental insecurity. In the gap or in the interval, People who have either lost hope and love, or are on the verge of breaking up, or are searching for themselves while desperately searching for their soulmate. Either they overestimate their loves, or they try to get back not only time, but also missed chances and lost feelings. Either they actually get the right to try again, or the gift of a start.
The first translator of the play in Romanian Almost, Maine it was Christy Juncu. By the way, the same Christy Juncu was the first director who staged the mentioned play at the Theater named after Anton Pann with Rymnik Vilcha. The national premiere, which, unfortunately, I did not see. Instead, I saw three other versions. Intensely metaphorical, with many visual effects and rich video mapping, directed by Antonella Cornici at Teatrul Clasic Ioan Slavich from Arad, the one with somewhat more realistic scenery, staged by Vlad Christake at the Youth Theater in Piatra Neamka, and the one with an absolutely wonderful setting (Bogdan Spataru) and good acting from the Romanian section of the Northern Theater in Satu Mare. The show was the promising directorial debut of actor Theo Marton.
Andi Gerge, director of the version from the Theater named after queen maria from Oradea, felt the need for another translation. Which he did himself together with Adi Iklenzan. If in the show in Arad, Antonella Cornici turned to the services and help of the narrator, who was wonderfully played by Zoltan Lovas, Andi Herge chose introduction which, as I understand, was written by an actor from Oradea, David Konstantinescu. However, the whole story feels like a miss because David Constantinescu has to say his part for a reason at moments when the audience is struggling with the unknown and all kinds of dangers, with the hope of avoiding possible bodily harm at any moment. time is possible because of the poor architecture that Sala unfortunately had Transylvania. Unfulfilled foundation, very lame, exaggeratedly praised Bologna era. David Constantinescu, endowed with a flashlight, will once or twice examine the space, that is, the almost empty stage (scenography: Oana Cernea, light design: Cristian Niculescu), and at the end he will see his partner – Carina Bunea, who is convinced of this. a happy ending to the show. Until then, however, East (Aline Stanciu) will fall in love with and likely heal the broken heart of Glory (Georgia Keprerin), who has come to Maine to pay her last respects to her husband, Sandrin (Michaela), whose death she blames Gerdan for). Jimmy (Sherban Borda) and Rayna (Anka Sigmiryan) will be the protagonists of the events that took place during the party that the former threw before becoming a bride, Gail (Adela Lazar) and Landall (Pavel Sirgi) will renew and return their love, Randy (Sebastian Lupu) and Chad (Alexandru Rusu) will be the main characters of the sad event, and Pictures, Marcy (Corina Cernea) and Phil (Sorin Ionescu) will celebrate their wedding anniversary by fighting, Hope (Denisa Iryna Vlad) and Dan (George Dometi) will live with lost illusions of recovery that will prove impossible, and Rhonda (Ioana Dragos Gaydo) ) for with the help of Dave (Eugene Nig), they will discover the beauty of love. It is played everywhere. On the stage, in the aisles between the rows, on the sides of the parquet. So the actors also struggle with all kinds of impurities in the hall.
Andy Gerge, originally a professional actor, relies heavily on working with performers. He is not too involved in magic, he believes that the story is important. Or, more accurately, stories that deserve to be covered clearly, distinctly, with great sensitivity. Which is not for nothing Sometime it’s about love. Love turned on all faces. One not necessarily with bangs, but always a little different, because the place where the respective love stories are consumed is not quite like the others. The actors are good, they perform their duty well. So I have no big complaints. Somewhat more uninspired are the costumes, which at times seemed a little too light to me. A little too old. _Read the rest of the article on Contributors.ro
