“I am suspending my campaign”: Donald Trump made a surprise on Monday by sending this message to his supporters, an April Fool’s joke that was actually intended to raise new funds for his candidacy in the presidential elections in November, AFP and Agerpres report.

The former Republican president, who is trying to oust Democrat Joe Biden from the White House, sent this short text to his constituents via email and text along with a link.

After accessing the message, his supporters went to the website and were asked to donate $5,500 or $3,300 to the election campaign.

“Did you think I would suspend my campaign? First of April!” Trump wrote in capital letters.

For several years, American voters have been bombarded with text messages, emails and phone calls asking them to contribute financially to the nominations of candidates.

This forces candidate teams to be more creative in order to stand out. In a country where winning elections is worth billions of dollars, the donations they raise are extremely valuable.

Donald Trump constantly attracts supporters with stories about his troubles with the law.
