Russia’s National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) announced on Sunday the arrests in Makhachikal and Kaspiysk, in the autonomous republic of Dagestan, of three people who planned to “commit a series of terrorist crimes”, ten days after the Crocus City Hall attack. .

Russia is on high alert after a gunman attacked a concert hall on the outskirts of Moscow on March 22, the country’s worst attack in 20 years, which killed at least 144 people.

On Monday, Russian intelligence services said the men – foreigners – were “preparing a terrorist act in public places in Kaspiysk”, a city located near the capital of Dagestan, a volatile Russian republic in the Muslim-majority Caucasus.

The National Security Agency announced the arrest of three people on Sunday, but the FSB on Monday reported the arrest of four people who were carrying an improvised explosive device and an automatic weapon.

Also on Monday, the FSB said that the detainees “directly participated in the financing and provision of terrorist means to the perpetrators of the terrorist attack committed on March 22, 2024” in the “Crocus City Hall” concert hall.
