At almost 33 years old, Grigor Dimitrov seems to be experiencing a second youth in tennis. There is a Bulgarian woman one of the strongest players on the ATP circuit qualified for the final of the Miami Masters after defeating Oleksandr Zverev (fourth seed).

The match at the Florida event was very close, with Dimitrov (the 11th seed) winning 6-4, (4)6-7, 6-4.

The athlete from Bulgaria managed to finish the match without losing games on serve and with almost twice as many winning shots as the opponent (45-24).

In the first set, Grigor saved a break point at 2-2 and “breaks” Sasha’s serve in the tenth game.

In the second set, the game went back-to-back to a tie-break, where Zverev won with an additional mini-break (7-4 / he took the third opportunity to close the set).

The situation from the first set was repeated in the deciding match: Dimitrov was emotional in the game in which he was at the start, but he also saved the second break point that the German received and managed to break away to win the seventh range in the return.

There were only 18 unforced errors in total (Dimitrov made 10, Zverev – 8), and the match lasted two hours and 39 minutes.

• Grigor Dimitrov will fight in the final of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Miami with Yannik Sinner (3 ATP / favorite 2). They met three times: the Bulgarian won the first match (Rome 2020), and the Italian the next two (Miami and Beijing 2023).

• In Miami, Grigor defeated Alejandro Tabilo (44 ATP), Yannick Hanfmann (56 ATP), Hubert Gurkac (9 ATP), Carlos Alcaraz (2 ATP) and Oleksandr Zverev (5 ATP).

• This will be the third Masters final in Dimitrov’s career after Cincinnati 2017 (victory over Nick Kyrgios: 6-3, 7-5) and Paris 2023 (lost to Novak Djokovic: 4-6, 3-6).

• Regardless of the outcome of the final with Sinner, Dimitrov will enter the ATP top 10 in the rankings, which will be published on Monday, April 1. Grigor secured the 9th place, and with the victory over the Italian, he will rise to the 7th place.

• The last time Grigor Dimitrov entered the ATP top 10 was 260 weeks (5 years) ago. Only two players managed to return to the men’s tennis elite after a long absence: Gilles Simon (308 weeks) and Alberto Costa (264 weeks – the new coach of Sorana Kirstya).

The ATP Masters 1000 Miami Open tournament will take place from March 20 to 31. The game is played on a hard surface, with 96 players in the main draw and a total of $8,995,555 in prize money. The champion of the title is Daniil Medvedev.
