Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyi on Friday continued the changes among his closest officials, firing two deputies from his administration and appointing a former high-ranking security officer to the position of ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Reuters reported.

Andriy Smirnov, who was responsible for legal policy issues, and Oleksiy Dniprov, who headed the “apparatus” of his administration, were dismissed by presidential decree, Agerpres notes. They were among ten deputy heads of administration of President Zelensky Andriy Yermak.

In their place were appointed Olena Kovalska, who was part of the group of advisers to the president on the creation of a tribunal to try Russia for the invasion of Ukraine, and Iryna Mudra, who was the deputy minister of justice.

President Zelenskyi has made radical changes in leadership positions, in particular among senior military personnel, appointing Oleksandr Syrskyi as commander-in-chief last month instead of the country’s popular commander Valery Zaluzhnyi.

In a video speech on Friday night, President Zelenskyi said he had appointed Oleksiy Danilov, the former chairman of Ukraine’s Security and Defense Council, as ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, saying Danilov wanted a diplomatic appointment.

The president of Ukraine called the Republic of Moldova, a country whose pro-European president Maia Sandu condemned Russia’s invasion, as “an extremely important state – both from the point of view of security challenges in the region and from the point of view of bilateral cooperation.”

Danilov was dismissed last week from the post of head of the Security Council.
