The Dniester HPP, located on the Dniester River on the border with the Republic of Moldova, was one of the targets last night from the air, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said, reports Unian.net.

He warned that as a result of such attacks, a disaster may occur, which will also affect Moldova, due to the overflow of the Dniester.

According to Reuters, Russian missiles and drones have struck thermal and hydroelectric power plants in central and western Ukraine, the energy grid operator Ukrenergo said on Friday.

“At night, the Russians again hit energy facilities in a massive combined attack,” Ukrenergo said in a message on the Telegram messenger. “Thermal and hydropower plants in the central and western regions were affected.”

President Zelenskyy stated that the Kaniv and Dniester hydropower plants were among the targets that the Russians killed during the night.

“The terrorist country (Russia) wants to repeat the environmental disaster in the Kherson region. But now not only Ukraine is under threat, but also Moldova,” Zelenskyy said.

The Dniester Plant is located on the Dniester River, which also crosses the territory of Moldova.

Russian troops blew up the Kakhov dam in the Kherson region last year.

Last week, Russia also struck Ukraine’s largest dam, the Dnipro HPP, in Zaporizhia Oblast (in the south) eight times in a massive nighttime attack.

Regional officials said Russian forces also attacked infrastructure overnight Friday into Saturday in the Kamian district near the city of Dnipro. At least one person was injured, they added.

The Minister of Energy of Ukraine, Herman Galushchenko, said that energy facilities in the Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Cherkasy regions suffered similar attacks.

Electricity production facilities were fired upon by drones and rockets,” Gelushchenko said on Facebook.

Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal later announced that energy facilities in six regions of Ukraine were attacked. According to him, Ukraine needs more air defense systems to provide critical infrastructure and protect the population.

Ukraine’s armed forces said that overnight its air force destroyed 58 attack drones out of 60 launched by Russia, as well as 26 missiles out of 39 launched.

“The enemy launched a powerful air-missile attack on the PEC of Ukraine using various types of missiles and attack drones,” the commander said.

Ukrainian energy distribution company Yasno said this week that DTEK lost about half of its capacity after Russian missile and drone attacks.

The Ukrainian state oil and gas company “Naftogaz” said that its facilities were attacked on Friday morning.
