MG3 Hybrid+: cheaper than Renault Clio and Toyota Yaris hybrids Auto Plus news in your smartphone

Renault Clio E-Tech, Honda Jazz, Toyota Yaris… There are not many hybrid city cars in Europe, and for good reasons it is sometimes difficult to find an equation between profitability and expensive technologies, all in a segment where prices should remain tight.

MG seems to have found the right formula with its MG3 Hybrid+, unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show about a month ago. Even if its design will not revolutionize the segment, at least technically, there are some interesting things. And as usual with MG, the price will be particularly attractive.

Strong case for MG3 from the start

Indeed, pre-bookings for the MG3 have just opened and the manufacturer has announced a base price “less than 20,000 euros”, while the most expensive version in the “Luxury” finish will not exceed 24,000 euros. Pre-bookings will be made online with a €500 deposit, which will be deducted from the deposit when the car is finally booked. Currently, 1,000 copies can be pre-ordered. The first 1,000 customers will also be offered two years of maintenance (drain and filters) for their in-network vehicle.
The MG3 Hybrid+ stands out among the competition with its power level. With the Toyota Yaris reaching 130 hp and the Renault Clio E-Tech 145 hp, the Sino-British city car claims 195 hp. This leads to honorable performances, p Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 8 seconds AND Acceleration from 80 to 120 km/h in 5 seconds.
The sub-€20,000 version will come standard, and the standard equipment is particularly generous: a 7-inch digital meter, a 10.25-inch central touchscreen, Level 2 autonomous control, a rear-view camera. The Comfort trim, which should logically cost around €22,000, adds 16-inch wheels, heated mirrors, a rear window wiper, a rear air vent and a 6 HP audio system.
The “Luxury” trim for less than €24,000 complements the “Comfort” package with 100% LED headlights, 360° camera, artificial leather and heated seats, heated microfiber steering wheel, rain sensor, speakerphone. available and tinted windows and rear window.

Cheaper than all of its main hybrid competitors

In terms of price, the MG3 Hybrid+ will be better positioned than the Toyota Yaris, which starts at 24,490 euros (€21,950 now with discount), Renault Clio E-Tech from 23,800 euros in the basic “Evolution” version (and more than 25,000 euros for the higher variant “Techno” and “Esprit Alpine”).

For its part, the Honda Jazz, which has a more than confidential career in France, is completely out of the picture from the start, with generous standard equipment of course, but with “only” 122 hp. 30,190 euros.
