Thus, Sorana Cîrstea, Irina Begu (protected rating) and Ana Bogdan were accepted directly to the tournament board at Caja Magica, based on their positions in the world hierarchy.
Returning to the field after the doping scandal, Simona Halep will be able to play in Madrid only if she receives a wild card from the organizers (as happened in Miami).
The Mutua Madrid Open, a WTA 1000 tournament, will be held from April 23 to May 5. Played on clay, the main draw will feature 128 players and a total prize pool of $8,770,480. The title champion is Aryna Sabalenko.
