The 58-year-old Chilavert (known for scoring numerous goals despite playing as a goalkeeper) slammed the Real Madrid player.

“Bread and circus. He is the first to insult and attack opponents. Don’t be a fool, football is for men,” Chilavert commented.

Vinicius Jr. with tears in a press conference when he spoke about racism

Brazil striker Vinicius Junior said in a tearful press conference on Monday that his desire to play football is diminishing as racist incidents against him rise in Spain, AFP reported.

“I’m sorry. I just want to play football. I just want to play, I want to do everything for my club and my family and for black people to never suffer again,” Vinicius told the press very emotionally.

The Real Madrid player spoke out a day before the Spain-Brazil friendly, organized in response to the racist abuse he has suffered since arriving in the Spanish capital in 2018.

“I’ve been seeing this for a long time, and every time it happens, it makes me sadder, and every time I want to play less,” he explained, wiping away tears.

The 23-year-old forward believes, like Dani Carvajal, his teammate at “Real”, that Spain is not a “racist country”, but “there are many racists, there are many of them in the stadiums”.

“Since I first complained about racism in Spain, the situation has worsened… They insult me because of the color of my skin, so I play worse on the pitch,” he said, according to Agerpres.

Vinicius, who was often targeted by opposition fans, has unwittingly become a leader in the fight against racism, but he said he “never thought” of leaving Real Madrid because “it would mean giving justice to the racists”.

“I will stay at the biggest club in the world, scoring as many goals as possible,” promised the Brazilian, who will be the most watched player at the Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday.

The friendly between Spain and Brazil takes place on Tuesday 26 March from 22:30 at the Santiago Bernabeu and can be seen live on Digisport 3 and Prima Sport 1.
