Andy Murray, 37, serious ankle injury
Andy’s problems arose in the match with Tomas Machak, in the third round in Miami, the dispute was crushed by the Scotsman in three sets with the score 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5).
In a post on Instagram, the former world leader announced that he had a complete tear of the anterior tibial ligament and a near-complete tear of the calcaneus.
“After I get back (not home) I will see an ankle specialist to determine the next steps. It goes without saying that something like this is difficult to accept and that I will be unavailable for a long period of time,” Murray wrote on Instagram, quoted by Agerpres.
A string of serious injuries began for Andy in 2017, when hip problems forced him out of the ATP (he had a metal hip replacement in 2019).
At 37, Murray hopes to recover in time to play at Wimbledon, a tournament he won twice in 2013 and 2016.
The Scot has already announced that the 2024 season will be the last in his professional playing career.
Andy Murray has won 46 career ATP titles, ranking 15th in the Open Era.
He rose to ATP No. 1 on November 7, 2016 and is currently ranked No. 61.
In addition to his Wimbledon titles, Andy also has five Australian Open finals (all losses), one Roland Garros final and one US Open Grand Slam title (2012).
