Simona Halep will not play in Charleston – She does not know what the next tournament will be in which she will participate

After a first-round exit in Miami (she won a wild card and was beaten by Paula Badosa in the first round), there were rumors that Simona would play on the green in Charleston (between April 1 and 7, a WTA 500 tournament).

Returning to Romania after participating in WTA Miami, Simona announced that she will not play in any tournament in the next period, she will focus on intensive training that will help her in official matches.

Work with the new coach (Carlos Martinez) will begin in the next few days in Bucharest. Also, in the next period, a plan will be drawn up for the clay season, in which Simona has shown good results throughout her career.

“I have to go to work. I really enjoyed being back on the pitch, it was a huge joy. I missed being on the court because everything tennis meant, I was smiling because my family and my close friends were there.

With Darren Cahill it was a nice farewell, we are already friends, I won a very valuable person in my career.

And it was a pleasant farewell to colleagues from the track. It was a pleasant feeling, I thank them and my family for being by my side” – Simona Halep.

About working with the new coach Carlos Martinez

Simona clarified the coach’s problem after participating in Miami. Carlos Martinez will be the first technician that Halep will work with in the next period, and the actual work will begin in Bucharest.

“I always admired him for the way he worked on the pitch (not Carlos Martinez) and for the results he achieved with players I admired.

Kuznetsova is one of my favorites. I had a chat with Darren (#Cahill) about the trainer and decided I wanted to try a spell with Carlos.

Yes, he will come to Bucharest. I will stay and train here. Carlos is coming next week. We discussed something about this (without participating in the competitions in Madrid and Rome), but nothing has been decided yet,” – Simona Halep.

About possible participation in the Olympic Games in Paris

“I would really like to qualify, but I understood that the chances are minimal. It would be great to play in the Olympics in Paris. But I don’t have a rating, I should be in the first 60-70” – Simona Halep.

When asked how she feels after returning to tennis, Simona said that she has become more confident. Halep also commented on Caroline Wozniacki’s comment. Daneza said that athletes found to have used doping substances should not benefit from wild cards.

“I feel more confident in myself as a person, but as a tennis player it will be difficult for me to achieve what I want. I don’t feel pressure anymore, I don’t know how long I will play, but I will play for fun.

I don’t think about it anymore (not what Caroline Wozniacki said). He better read the TAS decision, and if he doesn’t understand, let someone explain it to him,” he concluded Aleppo.

Martinez coached Daria Kasatkina for four years and led her to four titles – Trophy Phillip Island, St. Petersburg (2021), San Jose and Granby (2022) – and a Grand Slam semifinal (Roland Garros 2022). At the end of the cooperation, the coach said that he recommended the Russian to “see a psychologist.”
