Several explosions rocked Kyiv on Monday during a new missile strike by Russia. Ukrainian officials said two missiles were intercepted, but debris fell in several areas, injuring several people and damaging a building, Reuters and the Kyiv Independent reported.
At least four loud explosions rocked the Ukrainian capital just seconds after air-raid sirens sounded around 10:30 a.m. local time, and witnesses saw black smoke billowing over the city. In a Telegram post, the military administration of Kyiv urged residents to “urgently” take shelter.
After the shelling, Air Force Commander Mykola Olestiuk said that Russia launched two ballistic missiles from the occupied Crimea and both were intercepted by air defense systems, Kyiv Independent writes.

Serhii Popko, the head of the Kyiv military administration, reported in Telegram that fragments of the intercepted missile fell in the Pechersk region and damaged a non-residential building. Later, he added that debris also fell in the Solomyan district, where a multi-story residential building was damaged, and in the Dnipro district.
Mayor of Kyiv Vitaly Klitsyko confirmed that rescuers were called to these neighborhoods. Later, he reported that five people were injured in Pechersk – three were treated on the spot, two more, including a 16-year-old girl, were hospitalized.
Fragments of an intercepted rocket were also found in the Holosiiv district of the capital in a forest strip.
Information about other victims is still being clarified.
In a post on X, the US Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget Brink reminded that Ukraine needs help from the West.
“This morning, Russia is again attacking Ukraine with hypersonic missiles. Over the past 5 days, Russia has launched hundreds of missiles and drones over the sovereign country. Ukraine needs our help now. Time cannot be wasted,” said Brink.
Immediately after the attack, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also appealed to international allies to ensure the strengthening of his country’s air defense.
“There are no atrocities committed by Russian scoundrels, including an attempted ballistic attack in the center of a multi-million city,” Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on Kh.
“This reminds us that Ukraine urgently needs strengthened air defense, especially Patriot systems and missiles capable of repelling any Russian attack,” he added.
