
Sorana Kirstea had a near-perfect match in the third round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Miami. The Romanian beat the tenth favorite Daria Kasatkina with a score of 7-5, 6-2.

Seeded at number 19, Sorana started the match hesitantly against Kasatkina (11 WTA), who quickly made it 3-0 after the Romanian lost two serves.
Kerstya made a great comeback, made three breaks and won the first set to a tiebreak.
With a much better morale, Sorana Kirstya continued her good pace in the second set, avoided mistakes and again scored points on her opponent’s serve.
The game lasted one hour and 29 minutes.

In the 1/8 finals of WTA Miami, Sorana Kirstea will meet the winner between American Danielle Collins (53 WTA) and Russian Elina Avanesyan (65 WTA).

- For being in eighth place, Sorana will receive 101 thousand dollars and 120 points in the WTA singles ranking.
- Last year’s Miami semi-finalist Sorana Kirstea has 390 points to defend (she is 27th in the WTA Live rankings, down three places).
- Romania had three other players in the main draw in Miami, but they all lost in the first round: Simona Halep (against Paula Badosa), Ana Bohdan (against Kateryna Siniakova) and Jacqueline Christian (against Diane Parry).
The WTA 1000 category tournament will be held in Miami from March 19 to 31. Played on hard court, the main draw features 128 players and a total prize pool of $8,995,555. The champion of the overall title is Petra Kvitova (she is pregnant and will not participate in this year’s edition).
