
American Ilya Malinin won the gold medal at the World Figure Skating Championships in Montreal at the Bell Center on Saturday. At the age of 19, Ilya managed a quadruple axel in the free program.

Figure skater Ilya Malinin, world champion at only 19 years old
With a total of 333.76 points, Malinin was ahead of the Japanese Yuma Kagiyama (309.65 points) and the Frenchman Adam Siao Him Fa (284.39 points).
The American is the world junior champion, a title won at the 2022 tournament.
“I didn’t even realize what was happening (not even after the victory). I just tried to “fly through” the program with which I presented myself,” said Ilya Malinin after winning the gold medal.
“I will compete with him (not with Malinin) for years. If we both give 100% in the next competition, I don’t think I can beat him,” said 20-year-old Japanese Yuma Kagiyama.
