​Elise Mertens is out of the second round of the WTA tournament in Miami after losing in straight sets to Taylor Townsend 6-2, 6-2.

Elise Mertens, second round loss in Miami to Taylor Townsend

Ranked 28th in the WTA rankings, Elise Mertens was stopped in the second round in Miami on Thursday.

The player from Belgium was decisively defeated by Taylor Townsend (72 WTA) after a match that ended in one hour and 20 minutes.

The athlete from the United States of America will face the winner of the dispute between Clara Toson (91 WTA) and Olena Rybakina (4 WTA) in the third round.

The WTA 1000 category tournament will be held in Miami from March 19 to 31. Played on hard court, the main draw features 128 players and a total prize pool of $8,995,555. The champion of the overall title is Petra Kvitova (she is pregnant and will not participate in this year’s edition).
