>> Will Edi Yordenescu remain on the bench of the national team after EURO 2024? The selector’s answer

Edi Iordenescu does not rule out that Mitrice will be part of the Romanian national team at EURO 2024

Edi Iordenescu has named Romania’s squad for the matches against Northern Ireland and Colombia, with the only change being Raul Oprut, who has replaced the injured Nikušor Banku.

Despite scoring 12 goals and providing 11 assists for Craiova University this season, Alexandru Mitrice was not called up by coach Edi Iordenescu for the double and the Tricolors technician was criticized for it.

On Thursday, Iordanescu held a press conference, and one of the questions he received was about the situation of Alexandru Mitrica.

“The national team is open to players with potential, Alex Mitrice was in the first team. I have always seen a lot of quality in him, he is a very talented player.

Perhaps not being as competitive as he could have been, I think, with a more competitive mindset prevented him from achieving even greater results at the clubs he was at.

But with all due respect, I don’t think this is the time to talk about other players. Yes, I had a discussion with him because I’m a coach who communicates and the whole time the choices were not based on pride or resentment.

Whoever says that the players who are not in the squad now have no chance to get to the EURO, is wrong. Everyone has an open door, it’s not a cliché, it’s a reality. We have certain positions where we are on the edge, where we have one, maximum two solutions. Therefore, anything can happen at any moment.

Whoever opens the door to the national team, I cannot deprive a player of the right to represent his country, but he has to prove that he is valuable, that he is fit and that he can fit into the group.

It is true that the train is moving now, it is no longer at the station, it is going fast, so it is necessary to make great efforts, to prove very important things, so that it can jump off the road. – said Edi Iordanescu, reports FRF TV.
