Volkswagen already has a large selection of electric cars, from ID.3 to ID. Buzz. But the company is obviously not going to stop there.

Volkswagen ID.1 is coming

In fact, the German manufacturer is preparing to launch a new model that is even more affordable than the upcoming ID.2 model, which is also currently in development. The latter is called ID.1 and wants to display a price below 20,000 euros. And now the boss of the brand, Thomas Schaefer, told us a little more about it. According to him, the development around this car is already “very advanced”, which means that the VW ID.1 should be available from 2027. Another model, the ID.2all, is due to debut in 2026. . The price of this car will be below 25,000 euros. On the other hand, the VW ID.1 should position itself just above the €20,000 mark as a spiritual successor to the popular Volkswagen Up. The appearance of Volkswagen at such a price will certainly cause great interest not only in Germany, but also in other countries. Dacia Spring Electric 45 Essential is currently the cheapest electric car on the market with a base price of €22,750.

What to expect from Volkswagen ID.1?

Renault Twingo E-TECH Electric Package Techno is also among the available options, although it costs a little more than 28,000 euros. As for the Fiat 500e RED, it crosses the €30,000 mark with a price tag of €29,990. However, the Chinese market is attracting more and more attention for its incredibly affordable electric cars. Example, BYD e2 Honor Edition offered at an incredibly low price of €12,000. According to Volkswagen, such prices can only be achieved with very large production volumes, given the expensive battery technology. The choice of production location also plays a crucial role in this equation, as Schaefer pointed out. Although the design and equipment of the VW ID.1 have already been determined, the location of production has yet to be determined. Volkswagen is working to make this decision quickly. The brand’s schedule calls for the release of eleven electric cars by 2027, confirming that Volkswagen’s future is definitely electric.
