The weather conditions are causing a big headache for the participants of the tennis tournament in Miami, and the latest victim was Matteo Berrettini (Wimbledon-2021 finalist).

During the first round match, at 5-2 in the second set against Andy Murray, the Italian injured himself while preparing to serve.

Matteo lost his balance, put his hand to his forehead and rested his racket on the ground. The Italian did not fall, but requested medical attention and continued playing after rehydrating and eating an energy bar.

The match lasted two hours and 47 minutes and was won by Murray 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Having not played a single match since the US Open (August 2023), Berrettini returned to the court at the Challengers tournament in Phoenix (last week) and reached the final (5-7, 6-7 with Nuno Borges).

Also in Miami, but a qualifier, Artur Cazo passed out on court in the deciding set of his match against Harold Mayo. The Frenchman was taken off the field in a wheelchair, his condition is stable.

This phenomenon was explained at X by Alize Corne (former 11th WTA): “The heat and humidity are incredible in Miami. When will we stop risking players’ health?”
