Russia accuses the IOC of discriminating against Russian and Belarusian athletes

“The decisions of the IOC are illegal, unfair and unacceptable. We are outraged by the unprecedented discriminatory conditions of the International Olympic Committee against Russian athletes,” said the spokeswoman for Russian diplomacy, Maria Zakharova.

On the other hand, the Kremlin has accused the IOC of trying to intimidate athletes who want to take part in the “Friendship Games,” a competition competing with the Olympics that Russia wants to create in response to multiple sanctions against it.

“This is intimidation of athletes. And this completely undermines the authority of the IOC,” Kremlin press secretary Dmytro Peskov told reporters, News.ro reports.

On Tuesday, the IOC accused Russia of “politicizing sport” by organizing this competition.

The Olympic Games in Paris will be held from July 26 to August 11.
