Hands-on training courses through this community

Now and always, when you get your driver’s license, it’s usually for life. Except, of course, in certain cases, for example, when we commit serious offenses. But as we get older, we no longer necessarily feel comfortable behind the wheel, while reflexes are lost, in particular, with age. Therefore, the government is considering the possibility regulate driver’s licenses, so it is no longer valid for life. The latter can then be conditioned by passing a medical examination from a certain age. In anticipation of possible changes in legislation, some older motorists are already deciding to participate in optional refresher sessions. This is the case of Raymond, who wanted to “test his abilities” during a session organized by Matmut, absolutely free of charge. Indeed, the mutual insurance company notes that “deaths among seniors over 65 account for almost a quarter of road deaths.”

It is important to adapt driving to age

The stated purpose of this training is, first of all, to “realize that driving skills gradually decline with age” and to learn “to adjust your behavior so as not to get into risky situations.” According to Vincent Boudier, instructor at Matmut Prévention, “people who are really interested in it type of internship these are people who want to ask themselves. We’re here to give advice and tools to those people who are taking that first step.” Training includes theoretical part, but not only that, as a practical part is also planned, including a workshop on emergency braking. According to Nino Lal, an improvement instructor, “it’s very important for people to see the limits of a vehicle today, because the current limits are not what they were in cars 20 or more years ago. 25 years old […] We added systems like ABS, so today’s cars are much safer than they were back then.”

It remains to be seen whether the elderly people at whom this training is aimed will accept it and want to participate…
