Venus Williams lost to Diana Schneider in the first round of the WTA in Miami

The former holder of the first position in the WTA ranking, the American (7 Grand Slam singles titles), lasted only one hour and 19 minutes ahead of Diana Schneider.

The Russian, who is ranked 62nd in the world, played two identical sets, while Williams (457 WTA) is far from her former form.

Wildcard Venus returned to the court after a six-month layoff in Indian Wells, where she was also eliminated in the first round by Japan’s Nao Hibino 2-6, 6-3, 6-0.

In the second round, Diana Schneider will meet American Madison Keys (18 WTA).

The WTA 1000 category tournament will be held in Miami from March 19 to 31. Played on hard surfaces, the main draw features 128 players and a total prize pool of $8,995,555. The champion of the overall title is Petra Kvitova (she is pregnant and will not participate in this year’s edition).
