“I congratulate Vladimir Putin on his resounding victory,” wrote Medvedev, the vice president of Russia’s Security Council, who served as president from 2008 to 2012 while Vladimir Putin was prime minister.

Putin won 87.97% of the votes with 24.4% of the votes cast, according to the first data from the Central Committee of Russia.
The partial results mean Putin, 71, will easily win another six-year term, moving him ahead of Joseph Stalin to become Russia’s longest-serving presidential leader in more than 200 years.
According to News.ro, Putin’s victory percentage was the best ever, surpassing the largest margin of 76.7% in the four previous elections in 2018.
