Daniil Medvedev, three-set victory over Tommy Paul

Ranked 17th in the world, Paul has proven once again that he is very difficult to beat in tournaments held in the USA (he has a title won in Dallas and the final in Delray Beach, both in 2024).

Tommy won just one set in the first two meetings with Daniil Medvedev, but started like a gun in the match in the California desert and won 6-1.

Medvedev appeared to have recovered from the first set loss, leading 4-0 in the second set, but the American recovered both breaks and saved two set points at 5-6 to take a 3-2 lead into the tiebreak.

Daniil forced in time, won five points in a row (7-3 in the tie-break), and then did not give his opponent a chance in the decisive set: 6-2.

“He played an unbelievable first set, so I thought, ‘OK, if I want to win, I have to try to do a little bit better, find a shot that will cause him problems.’ I found several, mostly in his service” – Daniil Medvedev.
