Heavy electric vehicles

Indeed, these vehicles sometimes lack autonomy and practicality, especially when it comes to recharging. But that’s not all, because they can also cause some problems that we think less about. But what is it about? And plenty of troubleshooting tools in the event of a breakdown or improper parking. In fact, it is more difficult for tow trucks to lift electric vehicles for several reasons. Starting with the weight, it is higher than that of classic thermal models. Indeed, many conventional cranes are unable to transport cars weighing more than 1800 kg, which limits their ability to support this type of weight. But this is not the only problem faced by repairmen, on the contrary. And for good reason, unlike thermal cars, which have a neutral point marked “N” on the gearbox, many electric cars do not have this function. And this is because the wheels are constantly connected to the motor.

Increased risk for electric cars

The famous neutral point that allows damage-free towing, so does not exist on some models, which makes them difficult to tow. Also, if we were to try to tow an electric car like we would with a thermal model, we would run the risk of seriously damaging certain components. The wheels, still connected to the engine, cannot simply spin freely. In the case of front-wheel drive, the rear wheels do not drive the electric motor, but they may have regenerative braking. In the case of the drive, the story is the same. The front wheels are often used for battery regeneration. Therefore, any towing attempt may cause mechanical damage. Fortunately, there are towing solutions for these very specific vehicles. For example, with the help of a special winch or electricity generator. However, this solution necessarily requires the intervention of a heat engine to create energy.

In short, tow trucks can’t remove electric vehicles like they can with gasoline or diesel models. Their specifics of work make towing more difficult.
