Sector 5 Alderman Cristian Popescu Piedone, who has announced his intention to run for mayor of Bucharest from the Humanist Social Liberal Party he leads, founded by Dan Voiculescu, seems confident that he will succeed Nicosor Dan after the June 9 election.

Piedone posted a caricature of himself on a podium with four seats, suggesting he would win the Bucharest mayoral election, along with the message “Please take your seats.”

His reaction came after a poll commissioned by Nikusor Dan showed that the PUSL party president would have received 40.4% of the votes for the post of mayor-general.

Former mayor-general Gabriela Firea, who has announced she wants to run and is seeking to be officially nominated by the PSD, is not in the poll, while Sebastián Bourduya (PSD-PNL) has 16%, Diana Shoshoake 2.4% and Mihai Enache (AUR) – 1%.

The post of the mayor of sector 5, on whose Facebook page more than 900,000 people subscribed, gathered 3,000 reactions within half an hour after publication.

He assumed that he was a wolf and that he was being hunted by people who were hunting him to bring him down.

  • “I am an atypical WOLF: gentle with people, a beast with… non-humans!
  • I am a lone wolf! I don’t bite a veterinarian or a forester, but… I am NOT friends with loggers in the depths of the forest!
  • I am the GRANDFATHER OF WOLVES, biologically obliged to protect my pack and species from all enemies of the forest!”

Piedone believes that the judges who sent him behind bars in the Collective File are “non-human”, and the residents of Bucharest are part of his “pack”.

  • “When the non-humans locked me up and innocently sent me to the zoo for a year and a month, people condemned me, removed all guilt from me and released me to my divine flock!
  • How could I bite a person?”, wrote Piedone, who calls himself “a wolf that people love.”

Piedone: Nikushor Dan and I are playing in the final

Piedone announced two weeks ago that he would run for mayor, saying “the final is between me and Nikusor Dan”, while coalition leaders have yet to decide on a possible joint candidate for mayor.

The analysis of the coalition leaders shows that no candidate from the PSD-PNL alliance can defeat Nikusor Dan, according to HotNews.ro sources. “57% of the liberal electorate would vote for Nikusor Dan if Firea is the joint candidate, and 40% of the PNL electorate would also vote for him if Sebastián Burduha is the candidate,” sources quoted as saying.

“I will run for the capital mayor’s office from the “Strength of Humanists” Party, and whoever wants to approach us, enter into an alliance with us, the “Strength” Party of Humanists, I am open, I am also social, liberal. (…) I have the support of the voters, I have the support of the grass, where I come from. The fight in mines, in factories and plants, in the working class. It was my turn, it was my biological turn because of my experience in local government,” Piedone said on February 26 on B1TV.

Piedone then criticized PSD leader Marcel Čolaka after he said at a press conference on Wednesday that Gabriela Firea and Sebastián Burduha had an equal chance of running for mayor of the capital.

Pedestrians could steal PSD votes

In addition, the coalition’s calculations are complicated by the entry into the election race of Cristian Popescu Piedone, who decided to run regardless of what the coalition decides. Piedone can break through from the votes of PSD, more precisely from the votes of Gabriela Firea.

The PNL rules out Piedone’s support for the capital city hall, as organizations from Transylvania and Banat will protest. “The electorate from Transylvania is incompatible with Piedone. You cannot walk,” said the PNL leader.

If the PNL and PSD have separate candidates for mayor of Bucharest, Gabriela Firea is the first option for the Social Democrats, according to PSD spokesman Lucian Romašcanu, as quoted by Digi24.

Nikusor Deng told Digi24 that the move benefits him as polls show that Firea and Piedone will split their votes and he will emerge victorious.

According to sources from the Coalition, it was very difficult to transfer the voters’ vote from PSD to PNL and vice versa. The voters of Firea do not want to vote for Burduja, 60% – for Piedone.

Genmer also noted that he did not provide the media with all the information from the survey commissioned by his team, but only that which was useful to him.

“I did not share all the details with the press. I do not take Mr. Cristian Popescu Piedone’s candidacy very seriously. The poll shows him tied with Fiera and I will emerge victorious. I didn’t even ask for a poll with only Gabriela Firea and Piedone running, not because I don’t think that’s a viable scenario,” Dan said.
