Used cars: the French prefer professionals News from Auto Plus in your smartphone

Buying a new or used car is always an important step in life. Therefore, we should not take it lightly, on the contrary.

Used cars are popular

If new car sales are increasing, so are used car sales. Indeed, sales are at their highest and the market is doing very well, and has been for several months. In recent years, the majority of buyers were mainly independent intermediaries and dealers. Their experience and the guarantees they provided were reassuring french buyers, especially when it came to spending a significant amount of money on a new car. And truth be told, it still is, even more so as time goes on. This is supported by data provided by AAA Data for February 2024. Indeed, transactions involving used vehicles (V.O.) at the age of less than 5 saw how every second sale was made through professional sellers. However, the trend is reversed for used cars, with only 21.7% of sales being for used cars between 11 and 15 years old, and 16.7% for used cars over 16 years old.

Several arguments in favor of professionals for this case

Thus, out of 93,562 contracts concluded in February last year, professionals recorded a market share of 38.3%. These 35,842 units sold mark a significant increase of 15.8% compared to the same period in 2023. But how to explain such growth? In fact, there are several factors, including very competitive prices. Professionals were the first to adjust prices in recent months. In many cases, their prices are now as competitive as, or even lower than, private prices. In addition, European legislation has played an important role in the consolidation of warranty contracts for used vehicles from 6 to 10 years. Buyers are more confident knowing they will winreliable protection In case of problem. This increased confidence has helped strengthen the position of professionals in this segment to the detriment of individuals in whom clients have had less confidence in recent years.

Over the years, professionals can become even more important, although they have particularly good positions.
