Real Madrid are on course for another Spanish title, but coach Carlo Ancelotti faces legal trouble after being accused of defrauding the Spanish tax authorities of more than a million euros, EFE reports.

Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is accused of tax fraud

Prosecutors in Madrid are demanding four years and nine months in prison for Ancelotti for the crimes the Italian committed in 2014 and 2015.

As the Ministry of Public Affairs of Spain announced on Wednesday, the prosecutor’s office accuses the Italian coach of two crimes against the State Treasury, which he allegedly fraudulently appropriated 386,361 euros in 2014 and 675,718 euros in 2015, without declaring the income related to the exploitation of his image rights that he has transferred to others.

In its statement, the prosecutor’s office emphasizes that “in order to avoid taxation of the income from the relevant image rights” received both from Real Madrid and from other brands for various activities, the coach used a “complex” and “entangled” network” of companies submitted for image rights collection channel.

Carlo Ancelotti, 64, began his second term at Real Madrid in June 2021, the team he previously coached between 2013 and 2015. He won the Champions League twice with the Santiago Bernabeu group in 2014 and 2022.

The Italian technician extended his contract with the Spanish club this winter until June 2026, writes Agerpres.

Real Madrid are in first place in La Liga, seven points clear of Girona (2nd place). Also, the team is close to reaching the quarterfinals of the Champions League, having won 1:0 in the first leg of the “double” with RB Leipzig.
