More than 70% of Romanians believe that things in Romania are moving in the wrong direction. According to a survey conducted by Inscop on behalf of News.ro, about the same number of people believe that what is happening in the world is going in the wrong direction. The same survey shows that more than 60% of Romanians believe that their life is more difficult than five years ago.

More than a third of Romanians say their lives are better than five years ago, while more than 60% say their lives are harder than five years ago. The percentage of those who believe that in five years it will be better is the same as those who believe that in five years their life will be more difficult.

Country direction

  • 25.5% of Romanians believe that things in Romania are moving in a good direction (compared to 20.8% in 2022), while 70.1% are pessimistic about the country’s future (compared to 74.5% in 2022).
  • 4.3% is the non-response rate (compared to 4.7% in 2022).

PSD-PNL Alliance voters, 18-29-year-olds, people with high and very high incomes, and civil servants believe that the country is moving in a good direction at a higher than average proportion.

The direction of the world

  • 24% of respondents believe the world is moving in a good direction (compared to 24.2% in 2022), while 70.6% hold the opposite view (68.9% in 2022).
  • 5.4% do not know or do not answer this question (compared to 6.9% in 2022).

The evolution of the quality of life is a past comparison

  • Ask how they see their life now compared to 5 years ago, 36.9% of respondents rate it as “better” (compared to 29.3% in 2022), while 60.4% say that it is “harder” (compared to 68.9% in 2022).
  • 2.6% of respondents do not know or do not answer (compared to 1.8% in 2022).

Voters of the PSD-PNL alliance, people aged 18-44, people with higher education, people with high and very high incomes believe in higher percentages than average that life is better now than 5 years ago.

The evolution of the quality of life is a forecast for the future

  • 44.4% of Romanians believe that in 5 years their life will be better than today (compared to 43.2% in 2022), while 46.2% believe it will be more difficult (compared to 46.6% in 2022 year).
  • 9.4% don’t know or don’t answer (compared to 10.2% in 2022).

AUR voters, 18-29-year-olds, people with higher education, employees, people with high and very high incomes in higher than average percentages believe that in 5 years life will be better than now.

The poll was conducted by INSCOP Research on behalf of the News.ro press agency. The data were collected from February 22 to 29 by the CATI method (telephone interviews), using a questionnaire. The volume of a simple stratified sample is 1100 people, representative of significant socio-demographic categories (gender, age, profession) for the non-institutionalized population of Romania aged 18 and over.
