President Volodymyr Zelenskyi dismissed Dmytro Gerega from the post of commander of the Support Forces of Ukraine, replacing him with Brigadier General Oleksandr Yakovets, Kyiv Independent reports.

The appointment is part of Zelenskyi’s reshuffle of Ukraine’s military command, which included the dismissal of Supreme Commander-in-Chief of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny.

The support forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine are one of the main formations of the country’s army, which is responsible for the operational support of the troops. These are engineering support, radio-electronic warfare, radiation, chemical and biological protection, as well as topographic and hydrometeorological support.

The newly appointed commander, Brigadier General Yakovets, previously held a senior position in the Support Forces.
