Ruksandra Dumitrescu, a former volleyball player and player of the national team, passed away at the age of 46.
The Romanian Volleyball Federation announced today that the former volleyball player died on Sunday, March 3.
“Smooth road to the stars, Ruksy Dumitrescu!
Terrible news in Romanian women’s volleyball! Ruxi Dumitrescu, a former great player who represented Romania and Greece, left us on Sunday evening at the age of just 46.
She was born in the city of Vilcha, played in the first league for Dacia Pitesti. She then went to Greece, captained Panathinaikos (Athens) and became Greece’s MVP at the Athens 2004 Olympics. As a mark of respect, the Greeks took off her number 10 shirt when she announced she would no longer play volleyball.
She returned to the country and worked as a coach in the private club Alpha Volleyball Sibiu. Sadly, her heart stopped permanently on Sunday night. Let’s keep his memory alive! A smooth road to the stars, Ruxi Dumitrescu,” said the communique of the Romanian Volleyball Federation, which did not specify the cause of death.
