Dan Voiculescu stirs up water in the coalition. Discussions between the PSD and the PNL over the list of MEPs stalled on Monday after Voiculescu’s party, the Humanist Social Liberal Party (PUSL), claimed three relevant seats on the coalition list in exchange for media support that the Intact trust could provide, according to . HotNews.ro sources. The discussions are not recent, they started a few weeks ago and intensified after the PSD rejected the offer of Cristian Popescu Piedone to run for the post of mayor of the capital. Instead, he promised to support some of the PUSL candidates on the list for the European Parliament, quoted sources said.

PUSL wants to place Maria Grapini, Sabina Josoub and Lavinia Sandra in their respective seats on the Coalition’s list for the European Parliament elections on 9 June. Thanks to the media support offered by the Intact trust, the Social Democrats are ready to offer a suitable place for Maria Grapini, who, by the way, appeared on the unofficial list of the Social Democrats for the European Parliament, HotNews.ro sources inform.

At the same time, the PSD is trying to convince the liberals to support the other two names in their respective places in the PNL. “The Social Democrats put Maria Grapini in the right place in the right-wing PSD. Two other names are trying to get them onto the PNL list,” HotNews.ro sources claim.

The PNL leadership discussed behind closed doors the fact that the PSD and Dan Voiculescu want to give them two of the seven mandates that will belong to the party. This issue caused a huge scandal within the party, and most PNL leaders rejected such a deal.

In this context, Monday’s coalition meeting was postponed to Thursday, and the Liberals will no longer announce the list of PNL candidates at the PPE congress, which will take place on March 5-6 in Bucharest.

The coalition is betting on 17 eligible seats in the June 9 European Parliament elections, while PSD will field 10 candidates and candidates from PNL-7.

It should also be noted that in the PSD list for the 2020 European Parliament elections, Dan Voiculescu’s party received 4 MEPs out of ten proposed by the Social Democrats. Thus, in 2020, Carmen Avram, Maria Grapini, Tudor Cuhodaru and Cristian Terhes became MEPs proposed by PUSL and supported by PSD.

We will remind, PSD and PNL decided to jointly participate in the elections to the European Parliament on June 9 on a joint list.
