The player, who is ranked 68 in the WTA rankings, took two hours and 15 minutes to overtake Xia Wang (64 WTA / favorite 6).
Yuan won the first set with a score of 6-4, and in the second action he won on a tie-break: 7-6(4).
Yue Yuan (8th seed) also defeated Arina Rodionova (99 WTA), Taylor Townsend (83 WTA), Yafan Wang (69 WTA) and Anna Karolina Schmidlova (76 WTA) at the American tournament.

- For her success at WTA Austin, Yue Yuan received a check for US$35,250 and 250 WTA singles ranking points. The Chinese woman rose to 49th place – the best rating in her career.
