The 42-year-old man, who arrived from Spain, was caught on Friday by border police and customs officials at Henri Coanda airport as he tried to enter the country with three bags of cash in his checked luggage.

“Border police officers from the border police station of the Henri Coanda airport, together with customs officers, discovered in the man’s checked baggage an amount of 205,000 euros, which the person tried to illegally bring into the country.

On March 1, 2024, around 2:00 p.m., a 42-year-old Romanian citizen appeared at the Henri Coanda International Airport checkpoint to enter the country from Castellon – Spain.

Border guards, together with customs officers, conducted a thorough inspection of the man’s luggage. Yes, three bags with 500, 200, and 100 euro bills were found in the checked-in baggage for a total of 205,000 euros!” This is stated in the press release of the border police.

The man was unable to explain where he got the money from, and as it was suspected that it could be the product of criminal activity, the currency was detained while the police continued their investigation.
