The blue card will not be introduced in football, says FIFA
The head of FIFA said he was not aware of the idea before it came to public attention.
Football’s governing body’s proposal to introduce a “blue card” was discussed with FIFA at the IFAB’s annual general meeting in Scotland.
This card gives referees the right to send players off for 10 minutes for protesting or committing cynical fouls,
“Blue cards will not be used at the elite level. For us, this is a non-existent topic. FIFA is categorically against blue cards.
As FIFA president, I was not aware of this topic. I think FIFA has a say in IFAB. If you need a name, it’s “red card for blue card”.
We are always open to ideas and suggestions. But once you look at them, you also have to protect the essence and tradition of the game. There will be no blue card” – Gianni Infantinopresident of FIFA.
