  • Political sources told HotNews.ro on Wednesday that the coalition has decided to evaluate the chances of the two businessmen, who are apolitical, and depending on the results of the polls, the candidate will be supported for the post of mayor only after he joins one of the two parties. Among the names spread by liberals and social democrats are Dragos Athanasiou (Eurolines), Dan Ostahiye (Altex).

Before the Coalition meeting on Tuesday, PSD and PNL leaders did not seem to have decided whether they would have a common candidate for the capital’s mayor’s office. While PSD leader Marcel Čolaku expressed confidence that he would be the general candidate, PNL leader Nicolae Chuke said the PNL did not have a final analysis and would continue discussions with businessmen who “worked in various fields of activity”.

“At the moment, we have not yet completed the analysis. Each of us strives to find the best solution so that we can be sure that we will enter the campaign with a candidate who will win the elections,” said Nikolay Chuke.

When asked about a meeting held late last week with businessman Dan Ostahiye, Chuke said he did not propose to be the PNL candidate.

“I did not suggest him to be a candidate. It seems to me fair to any person, not only a businessman, to be consulted, to be asked if he can be checked,” he said.

Chuke said the PNL would hold such discussions again.

Gabriela Firea announces that the organization she heads, PSD Bucharest, has unanimously decided to support her candidacy for the mayor’s office of the capital.

Gabriela Firea, who in recent weeks announced that she is the candidate of the PSD for the mayor of the capital, announced on Wednesday morning that the Permanent Office of the PSD in Bucharest (the organization she heads) has decided to support her candidacy for the mayor of Bucharest.

  • “Thank you to my colleagues from the PSD Permanent Bureau in Bucharest, who unanimously voted to support my candidacy for the capital’s mayor’s office,” Gabriela Firea wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.

She added that the PSD Bucharest organization confirmed, also unanimously, the support of the current mayors of Sector 3 – Robert Negoitsa and Sector 4 – Daniel Beluce. Also, “in sector 5, they voted to support Christian Popescu Piedone.”

  • “We have decided that we will conduct surveys and other research for: District 1 – Florin Lixandro, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education, District 2 – Rodika Nassar, MP and PSD President of District 2, Prefect Rares Hopinke and Deputy Dan Christian Popescu, District 6 – Senator Gabriel Mutu,” Firea also said.

Piedone, who announced that he wants to run for mayor of the capital, has just been accused of a conflict of interest FOR YEARS

Sector 5 Mayor Cristian Popescu Piedone was charged Wednesday morning with a conflict of interest by the National Integrity Agency, which accuses him of appointing his son-in-law to the commission for the sale of commercial premises.

“The National Security Agency doesn’t want me at City Hall,” was Sector 5 Mayor Cristian Popescu Piedone’s first reaction after ANI reported on Wednesday morning that he would be in a conflict of interest as he appointed his son-in-law to the commission from the sale of commercial premises.

Piedone says he will sue ANI for allegedly limiting his right to a defense and manipulating voting intentions.
