Erling Haaland, five goals as Luton Town beat Manchester City 2-6

With the score 4:2, it seemed that there were only four players on the field. Haaland scored four goals from assists by Belgian Kevin De Bruyne (‘3, ’18, ’40, ’55), while Jordan Clarke scored twice for Luton from assists by Ross Barkley (’45 – great achievement, ’52).

Haaland also converted a pass from Bernardo Silva (’58) into a goal, and the final score was set by Mateo Kovacic (’72).

Know:

  • Haaland is only the third player in City’s history to score five goals in a single FA Cup game, after Frank Roberts (February 1926) and Bobby Marshall (January 1930). Denis Law scored six goals even against Luton (1961), but the match was abandoned in the 69th minute due to rain.
  • Haaland became the first player in City’s history to score five goals in two different games. He also achieved this in a win with RB Leipzig (7-0 in the Champions League, season 2022/23).
  • The last player to score at least five goals for a top division team in the FA Cup was George Best: six for Manchester United against Northampton Town in 1970.
