There are kindergartens in Bucharest that offer vegan or vegetarian food, and that’s “nonsense,” says Dr. Cristian Serafinchanu, head of the dialysis center at the National Diabetes Institute, adding that a child can eat anything, including sugar. At the same time, he emphasized that the most important thing is that the child is protected from excesses.

Doctor Christian Serafinchana was asked what parents should do for their children to prevent obesity: “The most important thing for our children is that we as parents are balanced. Let’s not fall into one or the other extreme. I mean, let’s not give kids everything they want in terms of nutrition, let them eat chocolate and chips all day, buy them tablets from the age of three and tie them to the TV and phone. This is an extreme. The other extreme, as we have seen enough cases, is to impose strict dietary restrictions on children. Which is a huge mistake. Children with a vegan diet… There are kindergartens in Bucharest that have a vegan or vegetarian diet. This is a huge stupidity, this is a mistake. A child can eat almost anything, including sugar. And sugar is food. It brings energy without any debate. But you have to protect the child from excesses, regardless of the meaning of these excesses,” Christian Serafinchanu explained on Medika TV, according to News.ro.

Christian Serafinchanu also noted that it is very important for teenagers and children to do sports: “The second important criterion that concerns children and teenagers is sports. Unfortunately, there used to be a sports culture in Romania, which has been lost. I remember when I was a child or teenager, I practiced 10 hours a week. Taking a child to sports is a crime for parents. He should be taken by car, taken, waited, returned,” explained the doctor.
