Volkswagen is recalling more than 260,000 cars
Volkswagen launches recall more than 260,000 cars produced between 2015 and 2020. Reason? A problem with the fuel tank pump affecting models such as Golf, Golf GTI, Jetta GLI and Audi A3. According to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this pump, manufactured by Gentherm and built into the fuel tank, has a malfunction that could lead to a fuel leak. This issue is serious as it poses a potential fire risk, prompting Volkswagen to take immediate action to protect the safety of drivers and passengers. The essence of the problem lies in the fragility of the pump seal. If it fails, fuel can build up and leak through the filter. Among the consequences for owners are troubles during refueling, for example, leaks. In addition, passengers can feel the smell of fuel in the cabin of the car, which, let’s face it, is never pleasant.
Which models does this apply to?
This recall affects the 2015-2020 Golf GTI, 2015-2020 Golf, 2015-2019 Golf SW, 2019-2020 Jetta GLI, and the 2015-2020 Audi A3 sedan and convertible. Although Volkswagen says there have been no reports of fires due to the issue so far, the company prefers to recall affected vehicles to avoid future problems. Affected owners will receive reminder letters beginning April 12, asking them to contact their local dealer to replace the faulty pump. Volkswagen also recommends that owners check if they are affected by contacting the NHTSA website. In an effort to ensure the safety of its customers and to address this issue in a transparent manner, Volkswagen strongly recommends that owners take this recall seriously to prevent any possible incidents involving fuel leaks. Finally, as you already know, this recall only affects models sold on the other side of the Atlantic.
In France and in Europe in general, the manufacturer did not carry out such a recall.
