Daily Marca notes that the Valencian group has banned Netflix from showing the Mestalla stadium during Saturday’s match against Real Madrid (27th LaLiga match) due to a documentary on Vinicius.
It’s a “club decision,” official sources told the Spanish newspaper, News.ro reports.
La Liga usually controls media access to matches in La Liga and Spain’s second division, but this time the club decided to veto cameras from production company Conspiraçao.
The company, one of the biggest in Brazil, is currently recording a documentary about the Brazilian soccer player for Netflix.
Valencia’s refusal, said to be justified by mistrust of the use of the images, comes at a time of great tension between the club and the Real Madrid star.
Last season, Vinicius was the object of racist abuse from several spectators in the stadium, which even led to the interruption of the match.
The club banned for life three fans who imitated the sound of a monkey towards the Brazilian winger. But by accusing all supporters of racism (which he later corrected), Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti drew the ire of FC Valencia, the city and the local media.
According to Marca, the club also refused the production company to interview one of its players, Hugo Duro, in order not to stir up controversy.
The match “Valencia” – “Real” will take place on Saturday, March 2, at “Mestalla”.
