Ukraine announced a drone attack on one of Russia’s largest steel plants on Saturday, two years after the Russian invasion began, AFP reported.
The Russian authorities also reported a fire at the Novolypetsk Metallurgical Plant (NLMK) in the west of the Lipetsk region. Images posted on social media show a massive fire.
The SBU said that the plant manufactures weapons for Russian troops stationed in Ukraine.
“The drone strike on the Novolypetsk metallurgical plant was carried out jointly by two Ukrainian special services: the SBU and the State Security Service,” the SBU reported.
NLMK notes on its website that it is “the largest steel producer in Russia.”
Earlier, the Russian army said it had intercepted two drones over the Lipetsk region, and another over the Kursk region, which borders Ukraine.
The governor of the Lipetsk region of Russia, Igor Artamanov, reported on Telegram about the “fire at the NLMK workshop”, assuring that the fire has been extinguished, and called on the population “not to panic”.
