The stabbed bodies of three young women were found in a public house in the troubled Brigittenau district on Friday night after a witness tipped off.

The authorities have not yet determined the motives of these murders, the Austrian news agency APA reports.

In separate drama, a mother and her 13-year-old daughter were found dead on Friday morning in an apartment in Vienna, probably strangled or suffocated.

At the moment, the main suspect is the father of the family, reports APA.

In Austria, as in many other European countries, feminicides are now at the center of a wide debate.

The Austrian government has undertaken to fight this phenomenon and has increased financial support for some organizations that help victims of violence.

But NGOs criticize the Vienna government for not doing enough.

The Austrian Association of Women’s Shelters recorded 26 femicides in Austria in 2023.

Between 2010 and 2020, 319 women were murdered in Austria, most by their partner or ex-partner, according to a government study that points to a record 2019 with 49 femicides. (News.ro)
