The Mythos concept car, first announced in 2022 in a rather evasive press release, has disappeared from the radar.

But during the presentation of Mercedes’ financial results for 2023, the German company presented the first image as a teaser announcing release of this model in 2025.

New speedster fashion

But what is it really about? When contacted, Mercedes representatives assured us that, strictly speaking, it will not be a series of new models, but for the moment one product which will technically be based on the Mercedes-AMG SL. It will be a Mercedes-Maybach car. Recognizable by the speedster-typical double boss at the rear, this speedster version of the SL must surely be a very limited edition German roadster. It will be positioned opposite ultra-luxurious and ultra-exclusive products such as the Ferrari Monza SP1 and SP2, the Aston Martin Speedster and the McLaren Elva.
Be careful, however, not to set prices too high, because an Aston Martin or McLaren, despite the exclusivity of these models, had great difficulty finding buyers. Ferrari is hardly the only one that managed, surprisingly, to quickly sell off the production of its speedsters, or even Porsche with its 911 Speedster, but which are only three to four times cheaper than the McLaren Elva and other Aston Martins.

More luxurious than sporty

Globally, Instead, Mercedes-Maybach should move towards Porsche’s strategy, with a product around €300,000 (twice the price of a classic SL, anyway) and in limited quantities. Particular attention should be paid to the choice of materials and the pleasant feeling of the car, although it is difficult to imagine an SL coupe on the same level as the Maybach S-Class, since it will only have two seats. However, under the hood, Mercedes should not offer an electrified version of the SE Performance, but only a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8. 585 hp.

It is enough to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.6 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 315 km/h.
