In 2023, Lamborghini recorded a rapid growth.
A range that is gradually electrified
For the first time in its history, the Bologna manufacturer, owned by Volkswagen since 1998, exceeded the symbolic milestone of 10,000 cars sold ! Hellish performance for a brand that is nonetheless niche, selling only very high-end supercars, at a starting price of around €200,000. Ferrari and its approximately 13,300 models sold last year are getting closer! Change, Lamborghini will soon put its Huracan sports car on the shelves, whose departure will also mean the abandonment of the legendary V10 engine. Its replacement, which is due to be unveiled in the coming months, will indeed opt for a plug-in hybrid engine, as its big sister Revuelto does when it replaces the Aventador in 2023. But another model of the brand will soon be available on the electrification stand. : Urus. Sports utility vehicle, mainly at the top of the manufacturer’s sales, sold 6,000 copies in 2023. A tremendous success, especially since it’s only offered with a purely thermal engine, a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that develops a whopping 641 horsepower. A new electrified engine will be introduced this year, and some details are beginning to emerge.
The Urus plug-in hybrid is being prepared
Lamborghini will choose a plug-in hybrid engine, which refers to the Revuelto and the Huracan replacement. According to our colleagues at TheSuperCarBlog, this first hybrid Urus will retain the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8, which may be linked to the latest 177-horsepower electric unit introduced in the 2023 Porsche Cayenne facelift. Aggregate power? About 800 horsepower ! Likewise, it could replace the 25.9 kWh battery from its German cousin, which would only produceabout fifty kilometers of fully electric travel. Let’s not forget that the Urus, even without the battery and electric motor, already weighs 2.2 tons. The addition of this hybrid architecture should make it even bigger… Lamborghini will equip it with a new transmission, a new differential and a new torque management system. Aesthetically and to control electricity consumption, its aerodynamics should be revised, with a more profiled roof, bumpers, hood and grille are narrower than before. On board, its instrument panel and vents should be redesigned, p adoption of a new 12.5-inch central panel and new upholstery colors.
No launch date has been announced at this time, but the first teaser images shouldn’t be long…
