“Designed in Ghana. Made for Africa. » Here is the Jidi electric motorcycle, which was born as a result of the union of two continents, initially from the idea of the Ghanaian company Kofa (specializing in batteries) and the Chinese TAILG (manufacturer of electric cars).

Compact and strong, this motorcycle is designed to work in the difficult climatic conditions and terrain of Africapromising performance and security levels among the best on the market.

With battery replacement system

The Jidi electric motorcycle is equipped with a Kore2 battery developed by Kofa, which provides range of 100 kilometers and can be quickly replaced at the company’s Swap & Go stations. In other words, it only takes 30 seconds to replace the batteries and start again with a charged battery. This is somewhat similar to the system offered by Nio, which tends to become more and more popular on the brand’s electric vehicles in Europe. The Sino-African electric motorcycle is powered by a yet-to-be-determined 72-volt motor that propels the two-wheeler to a top speed of 85 km/h. So the performance seems similar to a 125cm thermal scooter.3.
Thanks to special tires and a steel frame, Jidi reduces operating costs by 30% compared to the thermal version, also offered in the catalog. The motorcycle is also distinguished by a sufficiently long saddle for transporting a passenger or cargo, USB ports and LED optics. Prices are currently not available.

The development of electric motorcycles in Africa

All in all, this new motorcycle confirms the ambitions of several manufacturers and companies to electrify two-wheelers in Africa. For example, as we recently told you on Auto Plus, Uber has invested in zero-emission mobility in Africa with An electric motorcycle rental service operated by Uber will soon launch in Kenya, which will help reduce car traffic while improving air quality in the country. After the launch in Kenya, the project will be expanded to other African markets where Uber is present, including Nigeria, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Uganda, Tanzania and South Africa.

Africa faces challenges related to recharging

The service, called “Boda” (Motoxi in Swahili) includes: 3000 electric motorcycles which will be available within the next six months. According to Uber, this initiative will reduce the company’s operating costs by 30-35%, while users will pay 15-20% less compared to the previous service.
Kenya is one of the most advanced African countries in terms of energy transition. Really, Nairobi generates over 90% of its electricity from renewable sourcesalthough this remarkable figure is – at the moment – not accompanied by an adequate charging infrastructure.

To make e-mobility more affordable, many local companies, including Jidi, offer battery swapping services to quickly replace them.
