Decrease in number
Contrary to what you might think, getting behind the wheel is actually not at all trivial. And for good reason, it still remains dangerous in some cases, and unfortunately, no one is safe from an accident, which can sometimes be very serious. This is also proven regularly as many people die on the road every year. And the numbers that Road Safety shows every month speak for themselves, and the interagency body is trying to prevent car accidents. As such, it has only pulled back the curtain on its final results for 2023, and the latter are quite optimistic. And it is not for nothing that the number of deaths registered in the last twelve months is decreasing in France. We actually saw a slight drop of about 3% last year. In general, they are all the same 3170 people died on the roads of mainland France last year.
Car collisions happen more often than you might think, and they often happen during your daily commute. It is important to know how to react. #Hang up #Auto insurance pic.twitter.com/n762b413p4

Not all are equal
As ONISR explains, “travel restriction measures (lockdowns, curfews) implemented in 2020 and the first half of 2021 to combat the COVID 19 pandemic led to a dramatic reduction in accidents in 2020 and 2021.” However, while the number of motorist fatalities, as well as the number of users of two-wheeled motorized vehicles, is decreasing, this is not the case for all. And for good reason, the number of cyclist deaths is still above the 200 death threshold, with no less than 226 in 2023. However, this corresponds to an 8% drop from 2022. The same with pedestrians, with a decrease of 10% and in general 440 injured in a road accident. But those who still pay a high price are users of motorized personal transport (MPT). In fact, the number of deaths increased by 7% compared to 2022, with a total of 42 deaths. Overall, across all modes of transport, 75% of people seriously injured are men, which is equivalent to figures in 2022 but higher than in 2019. In addition, an estimated 461 deaths were among people aged 25 to 34, which is stable compared to 2022. but down significantly from 2019, with 55 fewer deaths.
