The United States will impose sanctions on more than 500 entities linked to Russia on Friday as part of events marking the second anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, US Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo said on Thursday, Reuters reported.

These actions, taken in partnership with other countries, will target Russia’s military-industrial complex as well as third-country companies that help facilitate Russia’s access to the goods it needs, Adeyemo said, as Washington seeks to hold Russia accountable for war and for the death of oppositionist Oleksii Navalny.

“Tomorrow we will be imposing hundreds of sanctions here in the United States alone, but it’s important to step back and remember that it’s not just America taking these steps,” Adeyemo said.

He said the sanctions are aimed at preventing Russia from gaining access to the goods it needs to build weapons and slowing Russia’s access to the revenue it needs to support its economy and weapons production.

The package would be the latest of thousands of sanctions against Moscow announced by the United States and its allies since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, which left tens of thousands dead and cities in ruins.
